Amy Louise Baker is a textile fine artist, who is well known for her earthy, abstract and textured moss and lichen pieces, which she creates by using a range of fiber techniques, like embroidery and weaving.
Her love for textiles began when she was a child, as she would often make her own little stuffed animals or dolls by using socks, t-shirts and cotton wool balls, she would even create miniature clothing and accessories for them. One day, when she was browsing on her Instagram and she came across an abstract embroidery piece, which was very textured and she fell in love, she was fixated on these new fiber techniques when she had never previously heard of. This inspired her to look further into it, and try out some of her own. She often mixes different inks on top of her fabric and experiments with a variety of different stitches, her favourite being the french knot. She is very inspired and passionate about science and art. |
I love how her pieces of work almost have a 3D look to them, and the textures are incredibly interesting to look at, it makes me wonder what they feel like to touch.
