Robert Capa was a photographer who captured photographs of the us forces' assault on Omaha Beach during D-Day, on the 6th of June in 1944.
His photographs hold a significant historical record of the invasion of France by the Germans, and the allies fighting for France, it was the largest seaborne attack in history. Robert managed to capture the soldiers as they advanced on their journey and landed on Omaha beach, with graphic and upsetting pictures of destruction, death and chaos. He took 106 photographs in total but only 11 survived as the rest had been destroyed in a processing accident in the Life Magazine photo lab in London. It must have took a lot of courage for Robert to capture and document such a horrible experience and still make it out alive. It's a shame that the other photographs were destroyed although I'm sure they would have all been graphic and unsettling to look at just like the remaining eleven. |
