Willard Boyle was born on the 19th of August in 1924, he was a Canadian Physicist and pioneer in the field of laser technology.
George Smith, born on the 10th of May in 1930, is an American Scientist and also an applied Physicist. Willard and George both shared the 2009 Nobel Prize in physics for their work in the invention of the Charge-Coupled Device (CCD). The CCD captures light and converts it into an electrical signal, which can then be used ti produce an image. CCD sensors are primary elements in most digital cameras and digital imaging. The CCD has an integrated surface, containing an array of linked capacitors, under the control of an external circuit, each capacitor can transfer its electric charge, to a neighbouring capacitor. |
