The Shutter Speed is one of the main features that you can alter when using a Camera.
As you alter the shutter speed, you are altering the amount of time that the camera sensor or film roll is exposed to light. If your shutter speed is high then you can easily capture a subject that is in motion, eg. a moving car and it will be clear. If your shutter speed is at a slow speed, then your image will in result, be more blurred. The longer the shutter is open, the more light the camera will be exposed to. |
We each took a selection of photographs, each at a different shutter speed, which are captioned below.
To create the motion in our photographs, we got into pairs of two and while one of us spun around on a computer chair, the other person then photographed the movement, capturing the motion at different speeds.
You can clearly see the variation between the motion blur and the sharp photographs.

We then went outside and stood along the footpath outside of the football pitch in Downpatrick, facing Asda. We stood here in a line facing the road, as we took photographs of all of the moving cars that went by, each at varying shutter speeds.
We then challenged ourselves to take as sharp of an image of the car as we could, with the background blurred and I think I got a pretty good shot of a passing silver Vauxhall Corsa.
