Irem Yazici is a hand embroider who was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She is the designer and owner of the Baobap shop on Etsy. She is well known for her interest of stitching tiny things, and has gained quite a large following on social media because of her work.
She began her embroidery journey when she was a child, her grandmother was a tailor and so when she went to visit her with family, she would always play with her embroidery supplies. Her first poeces of work were some miniature landscapes that she had embroidered into some small bottle caps, over time she began to create more surreal pieces from her imagination, and she also experimented with beads and sequins in her work. She focuses on miniature stitching's and she states that she is very detail-orientated, and working on small spaces is very therapeutic and satisfying to her. She also states that the background colour of her work plays a decisive role on what the other colours will be. She is inspired by illustrators and fiber artists, for example; Davor Gromilovic, Paulo Duro and Jane Searle. |
I find her work very unique, magical and captivating, as I am eager to know more about the stories that are behind her artworks.
