Aim of the unit
Understand the operating controls of a filmbased camera Consider, for example:
- operating controls of a range of cameras e.g. 35mm, SLR’s, Dianas, fixed lens, vintage, polaroids, medium format
- making appropriate choices e.g. film speed, exposure, combination of aperture/shutter
- film types e.g. 35mm, 120, slide, medium format, colour, black and white.
- rule of thirds
- foreground/background balance
- perspective
- different view points
- low/high lighting e.g. candle, flash
- available lighting e.g. natural, street lights
- studio lighting e.g. diffused, reflected
- safe use of lighting
- use of reflectors, filters
- changes to lighting based on subject e.g. reflective surfaces, shiny surfaces. Understand experimental darkroom or cameraless photographic techniques Consider:
- cameraless photography e.g. pin hole, photograms
- daylight papers e.g. cyanotype
- darkroom techniques e.g. solarisation, toning
- multiple images
- consider safe working practices and health and safety requirements.
